Raj Tarun and Vijay Kumar Konda’s Orey Bujjiga was initially planned for theatrical release in summer. But, due to Covid-19 and subsequent lockdown, it got postponed. The film co-starring Malavika Nair and Hebah Patel is releasing directly on Aha OTT platform tomorrow with premiere today. Trailer promised the film is going to be a hilarious entertainer. Will it live up to the expectations?
Srinu aka Bujji (Raj Tarun) who is in love with his college mate Srujana (Hebah Patel) escapes from house, when parents plan to fix a match for his marriage. Later, Srujana realizes that Srujana is use and through type. On the other hand, Krishnaveni (Malavika Nair) hailing from same village elope from wedding venue as she doesn’t have any feelings for her bava. Bujji and Krishnaveni run off in same train leading to a confusion of both are in love with each other. This rumor spread like a wildfire across the town and lands Bujji, Krishnaveni in trouble. They join in same company in Hyderabad and love blossom between the two, without knowing each other’s real identity. Where this confusion ends?
Director Vijay Kumar Konda opted to a decent and thin storyline which needed to have an engaging screenplay. Although he somehow could entertain first half with confusing comedy, it is stretched beyond a point. Lack of freshness and repetitiveness brings boredom in second half. Love track of Raj Tarun and Malavika Nair also lacked the magical moments. Vijay gets only pass marks for his direction. Coming to other technical departments, cinematography by I Andrew is one of the biggest drawbacks, wherein sound tracks by Anup Rubens were mediocre and background score was okayish. Prawin Pudi’s editing work adds to the downsides. Production values of Sri Sathya Sai Arts banner are good.
Onto artists, Raj Tarun’s role reminds us of Nithiin’s in Vijay Kumar Konda’s previous film Gunde Jaari Gallanthayyinde. But, he plays his part with ease and gets his comic timing right. Malavika Nair looked beautiful and played her role aptly. She indeed was provided good scope and she utilized it fully. Hebah Patel is wasted for a brief and inept role. Madhunadan is routine as hero’s friend. Vani Viswanath is okay as headstrong woman. Naresh and Posani Krishna Murali are cool. Satyam Rajesh and Satya were funny.

Vijay Kumar Konda created a laughing riot with his second film Gunde Jaari Gallanthayinde which turned out to be a super hit. The confusing comedy worked wonders for the film. But, the director is unable to come out of the box. His third film Oka Laila Kosam failed as the confusing comedy formula misfired and he repeats the same mistake for Orey Bujjiga as well.
The film begins on an interesting note with Raj Tarun narrating his story of how a gossip in his village troubled his life. Due to their own reasons, this guy and Malavika Nair elope from their houses and travel in same train. A villager who watches them together in train misunderstands and spreads a rumor of love story between them. The setup so far is very interesting and promises a roller-coaster ride. But, that’s not the case. GJG formula of social media chatting and confusing comedy works partly. However, it looks stretched after a point. Hebah Patel’s track is outdated, while the love track of Raj Tarun and Malavika too doesn’t excite. The interval twist is also predictable.
Second half starts on slow note and we feel repetitiveness. Malavika and Naresh’s drinking episode looks silly. Sapthagiri’s reentry in office doesn’t offer any interest. Hospital episode is lengthy and most mind-numbing part. Raj Tarun’s revelation about his true identity was too late. As usual, like in majority of Telugu love stories; this love story also has a positive ending.
Overall, Orey Bujjiga is a regular love story with no fresh elements on offer. Though the film has some comedy episodes to enjoy, the thin storyline and stretched screenplay played spoilsport. CJ goes with 2.25 star rating and we recommend you to watch this film if you love routine love stories.
