Sudheer Babu, brother in law of Mahesh Babu is known for his penchant to do different genre entertainers. Irrespective of the result of his films, his hard work and dedication won the appreciation of the movie lovers. He is getting ready to entertain movie lovers with his film Maa Nanna Superhero.
Maa Nanna Super Hero is all about father and son bonding and the emotions involved in the journey of a father who goes in search of his son and a son who goes all out to save the reputation of his father. Jani (Sudheer Babu) loves his father dearly and goes out of his way to save the reputation of his dad Srinivas (Sayaji Shinde) who lands in lot of debts.
Jani gets a huge shock when his father Srinivas lands in trouble and he needs huge amount to save him unscatched. Where this leads to and what happens when he meets Prakash (Sai Chand) and how is his lover Taara (Aarna) connected form rest of the narration.
Sudheer Babu who has done different roles and underwent numerous transformations for his roles, this time however played it simple. He played the role of a doting, loving and caring son to perfection. He toned down his histronics and also stayed away from all the commercial and mass elements and even powerful , massy dialogues. He showed good body language and emoted beautifully showing the emotions of a son towards his father.
Sayaji Shinde performed the role of a stock broker who once led a well to do life before his fortunes turn upside down. He showed his frustration, anger and also his caring for his son in few scenes. Sai Chand came with subtle performance. Though he got minimal dialogues he showed good expressions and emotions and showed the right body language to elevate the scenes.
Aarna who played the female lead for limited screen presence and she is ok in her role. Aamani played an important role. Others performed according to their roles.
Abhilash Kankara through Maa Nanna Superhero tried to highlight the bonding between father and son and tried to be different in showing the father looking for his missing son and son trying to save the reputation of his dad. Though the point seems interesting, on screen many predictable scenes crept in robbing of the novel experience.
Right from the start till the finish, the screenplay and narration sails at the same pace. The runup to the interval picks up pace setting the stage for the gripping second half. The second half however turns out to be again going on the similar lines and before the emotional climax generates little interest.
Jay Krish's music is soulful. Songs are situational. His background music is in sync with the storyline. Editing of Anil Kumar is ok but could have been better as there are scenes that slowed the pace of the narration. Cinematography of Sameer Kalyani is beautiful. Production values are good.
Altogether, Maa Nanna Superhero is a typical father son bonding entertainer. Sudheer Babu tried out a different genre and he should be commended for his decision. Director Abhilash came up with an interesting plot but treads on a familiar path and this impacted the outcome. Lack of commercial elements and predictable narration undid his intention. Considering all these elements Cinejosh goes with a 2.5 rating for Maa Nanna Super Hero.
