F2 Fun And Frustration Punchline: Just For First Half Fun

F2 Review, What’s Behind:

Sankranti is a special season where families throng to theaters in bunches if makers bail out  safe, entertaining films. After the disappointing BO performances of all the three flicks released in last three days, all eyes are set on F2 from Dil Raju camp with Venkatesh, Varun Tej in main leads directed by Anil Ravipudi. Will Dil Raju camp make it to top in the season… check out this F2 review.

F2 Story Review:

Venky (Venkatesh), the victim of marriage and in-law’s family is severely suffered in the hands of wife Harika (Tamanna). What happened when Venky meets co-brother aka to-be-the-marriage victim Varun (Varun Tej) whose wedding is locked with Harika’s sister Honey (Mehreen). They both escape to Europe on the advice of colleague (Rajendra Prasad) where actual story unfolds in the house of well respected family man (Prakash Raj). When and how will Harika, Honey and Venky, Varun realized the strength in bond called husband-wife leads to a happy ending.

F2 Artists, Technicians Review:

F2 is surely a regular or say zero-thin storyline tested umpteen times from the known Tollywood times of Raja Vannem Reddy (Kshemamga Velli Labhamga Randi) and SV Krishna Reddy (Pellam Oorelithe) to Housefulls in Bollywood from Sajid Khan, David Dhawan and others. However, writer and director Anil Ravipudi’s knack lied in penning a knowingly entertaining screenplay rounded on Venky’s characterization supported by Varun Tej and surrounded by the glamour of Tamanna, Mehreen. In fact, Anil makes us feel as if film making is so easy sticking to simple funny lines punched on timing. Every bit of first half where Venky’s suffering and repetition on Varun Tej is a fun watch. Funny mannerisms which Anil rolls out in each of his films worked here too like Venky Aasan, Anthegaa and Honey is the Best. Apparently, Anil succeeded with first half where there was lesser content and fumbled in second half where he tried to add a soul and make F2, a complete film. Dialogue writing has been Anil’s forte and it’s the same with F2. In straight, Fun part is well executed and Frustration went wrong. Sameer Reddy’s camera work is colorful with foreign locations and local spots amalgamated economically. Editing by Thammiraju is crisp. Couple of tunes from DSP are instant grabbers and RR is acceptable. Production standards from Dil Raju are thrifty.

On to performances, Venkatesh is the show stealer. He is at finest ease in emitting the frustration in a funny manner. Entire first half is shouldered on Venky with superb timing of hilarious lines. Varun Tej’s Telangana dialect is acceptable, nothing much new from excelling as an artist. Tamanna and Mehree oozed loads of oomph. May it be exposing the skin in Saree or exploding in bikinis, they ran away ejecting the heat. Rajendra Prasad did well. Prakash Raj, Pridhvi, Srinivas Reddy, Pragathi, Hari Teja, Annapurna, Y Vijaya, Subba Raju, Sathyam Rajesh, Jhansi are regular. TV artist Pradeep’s Anthegaa is just superb. Naazar, Eshwari Rao added meat and meaning to a rather shallow core element.

F2 Review, Rating Analysis:

Like the title itself describes, F2 is full on fun and frustration. Majority of husbands in late 30s to mid 40s are likely to connect with F2. Though there is less logic and less emotion, F2 is an acceptable and worth one time watch just because of Anil Ravipudi’s handling and Venkatesh’s flawless performance. Had it been a more entertaining second half, F2 would have been bang on target but the script derailed in pivotal part bringing in new threads and unimpressive characters.

F2 kicks off in style with Venkatesh, Varun Tej arrested by European cops where flashback opens on how Venky’s life became miserable post marriage with Tamanna. His distress and hardships from in-laws are interpreted with rib tickling comedy episodes. Entry of Varun Tej as Venky’s co-brother and love track of Varun, Mehreen is also time pass. Falling of  Varun into the same net of Venkatesh sitting on the verge of becoming a hen pecked husband is again the best part of film. Rajendra Prasad added extra fuel. Radical plan to jump Europe by these three guys closes first half on a cheerful note.

2nd half is where it gets problematic for Anil Ravipudi with addition of Prakash Raj’s track. Tamanna, Mehreen’s acceptance to marry Prakash Raj’s sons Subba Raju, Sathyam Rajesh is a silly stuff. All the mischievous tricks played one after other by Venky, Varun to put off their wives weddings went erroneous. Hariteja, Rajendra Prasad too failed here. Sudden entry of Vennela Kishore, Nutan’s revenge sub plot is also wasted. Anasuya’s appearance in song too is unexciting. Except the lecture from Naazar, Eshwari Rao… nothing looked fit. Onto the bridge collapse climax, once again Anil’s magic missed closing F2 half hearted.

In totality, F2 is worth one time watch for excellent first half glued with Anil’s trademark dialogues, heroines glamour and Venkatesh’s character. Barring a couple of episodes, second half dipped down gradually and never lifted up. Taking the Pongal season advantage into analysis, F2 will probably evolve as a sleeper hit… thanks to Dil Raju’s calculated risk on investment. Exclude the skin show of heroines, F2 is a safe watch with family members. Cj goes for 2.75 stars.
