Artists, Technicians Review
The story of Cobra gave ample scope for Vikram to showcase his acting prowess. Ajay Gnanamuthu tried to take his acting prowess of Vikram to another level in a story revolving around maths and science and other issues. Though the idea is right, the complex usage of maths and science formulas ended up confusing the common people. The narration starts in an interesting manner with maths equations and their connection to the assassinations. But as the story progresses, when viewers get into the complex world, Gnanamuthu deviates from the romantic track and this back-and-forth narration made it difficult for the movie lovers to follow. To the top of it, imaginary persons appearing along with Vikram tested the patience of all.
In spite of all this, the first half ends on a decent note. However, when many expected second half to take off, it hit the downside with Tamil flavor, an increase in the emotional quotient, and all the so-called maths and science formulas going for the toss. Everything turned out to be routine and the climax ends up testing the patience of the viewers.
Vikram turned out to be the soul of the film. He performed his role effortlessly and carried the film on his shoulders. Minus Vikram Cobra would have sunk long before it started. He did multiple roles with ease and came with different expressions and emotions. Srinidhi Shetty is fine in her role while Mrinalini Ravi is ok in the flashback. Roshan Mathews suited the role of the villain aptly and his role is just routine. Star cricketer Irfan Pathan who made his debut with this film made his presence felt but he got only just a single expression to portray throughout the film. KS. Ravikumar is fine in his role and others played their parts accordingly.
Rahman's background music elevated the scenes giving a new feel to the viewers. His songs are far better than his earlier films. However, songs acted as the speedbrakers. Harish Kannan's cinematography is stylish and attractive but it also had its highs and lows. Bhuvan Srinivasan's editing could have been far better, especially in the second half. Stunt choreography is good and production values are grand.

Rating Analysis
Ajay Gananmuthu came up with an interesting and unique story to excite versatile actor Vikram. For all the novelty in the story, Ajay Gnanamuthu only succeeded in confusing the movie lovers with his screenplay and he failed completely with his direction. Vikram for all his hard work and performance turned too monotonous as his expressions and emotions reminded people of his earlier films Aparichitudu and Kamal Haasan's Dasavataram. Vikram should learn from his Cobra experience and ensure that he shouldn't get too excited just with the scope his roles offer him to showcase his acting prowess but also pay attention to the minute details of a strong story and script as people are feeling that he is turning too predictable. Considering all these points, Cinejosh goes with a 1.5 rating for Cobra.
