Bombhaat Review, What’s Behind?

Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi fame Sai Sushant Reddy’s new film Bombhaat co-starring Chandini Chowdary and Simran Choudary premiers on Amazon Prime Video from today. The film is directed by first timer Raghavendra Varma is promoted to be a visual extravaganza among low budget films. Let’s discuss whether this sci-fi drama pleases audiences.

Bombhaat Story Review:

Wiki (Sushant) is a guy with bad luck since his childhood and becomes good friends with a scientist Acharya (Shishir Sharma) who influences him to take up robotics. Wiki adores his classmate Chaitra (Chandini Chowdary) who too accepts his proposal. When life goes as good luck would have it, bad luck knocks his door again as his girlfriend breaks up with him and Acharya dies in an incident. He meets Acharya’s daughter Maaya (Simran Choudary) who behaves weirdly. Who killed Acharya and why? What is the secret that Acharya wanted to convey to Wiki? Why Maaya behaves abnormal? Who is the humanoid robot among these characters?

Bombhaat Artists, Technicians Review:

A humanoid robot called Sophie which holds UAE citizenship is the inspiration for Raghavendra Varma, as told by the director himself. But, not that’s alone the inspiration to make this film. He is hugely inspired by Rajinikanth’s Robo and many other science fiction films. From start to end we don’t find anything interesting- neither the science elements nor the romance. It’s better not to talk about the ‘comedy’ in the film. It’s a complete failure of writing and direction departments. Songs in these kinds of films is a big burden and background score by Josh B too is unimpressive. Cinematography by Mentem Satheesh is okay, wherein editor Gautam Raju had no clue what to keep and what to delete. Production values of Sucheta Dreamworks Productions are okay.

Coming to artists performances, Sai Sushant Reddy is far better in his first film Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi. There is a dialogue in the film uttered by Sunil who narrated the story, “Veedu Eppudu Ide Expression Isthadu”. Yes, he’s right. He gives similar expression for the different emotions. Chandini Chowdary looked glamorous, but she didn’t get any scope to perform. Simran Choudary is okay in her role. Priyadarshi failed to provide any comic relief. Makarand Deshpande degraded himself by playing a silly role, wherein Shishir Sharma is wasted for another insignificant role. Tanikella Bharani, Vineet Kumar and Hema too were misused.

Bombhaat Review, Rating Analysis:

Science fiction entertainers are highly risky to make. But, films of the genre with good content shook box office many times. Films like Aditya 369, Robo etc. turned massive blockbusters as people were bowled out to see the grand vfx and engaging content. Bombhaat is hugely inspired by Robot, but it is the shoddier version of the Rajinikanth starrer.

The film begins with a breakup scene followed by protagonist’s pathetic flashback of how bad luck plays with him since childhood. His friendship with a professor doesn’t make any sense and there are no such scenes how it helped Sushant. We expect him to learn few techniques and implementing them. But, the complete focus was on romance which adds to the big list of negatives. The narration turns more tedious after the entry of Makarand Deshpande as a ‘mad’ scientist.

The triangular love story of Sushant, Chandini Chowdary and Simran Choudary remind us of Robot where humanoid robot falls in love with the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai. A twist about Maaya is revealed and it is not stupefying. Pre-climax is predictable and the climax portions hint the director has plans of making a sequel.

All in all, Bombhaat is another big disappointment for OTT viewers in corona times. The film offers nothing to cherish. CJ gives 1 star rating and recommends movie buffs to avoid this film.
