Karthikeya who shot to fame with his macho looks and riveting performance in his debut film RX 100, failed to replicate the magic though he tried different genre entertainers. He is gearing up to entertain movie lovers with his film Bedurulanka 2012 generating interest. The film's teaser and trailer increased the curiosity of all and the film is releasing on 25 August 2023. The film's OTT rights are yet to be inked and streaming will be after the completion of its theatrical run. Let us find out whether Bedurulanka 2012 entertained movie lovers or not.
Bedurulanka - 2012 story is all about people in the village and how they react when they come to know that doomsday was fast approaching. In 2012 everyone talked about dooms day approaching on 21 December 2012 and following this the people of the Island, Yedurulanka started discussing the possibility of the entire world coming to an end.
In the midst of all this, Graphics Designer Shiva (Karthikeya) returns to the village after hearing that his lover Chitra (Neha Sshetty) finally express her love to him. But things change quickly and how Bhushanam (Ajay Ghosh), his son Kasi Reddy (Rajkumar Kasireddy), astrologer Brahmam (Srikanth Iyengar), Daniel (Jabardasth Ramprasad), Chitra's father president (Goparaju Ramana) are connected to the developments should be found on the screen.
Karthikeya, unlike his other films, plays a completely different role and he tries a bit of comedy in it. He showed decent expressions and emotions but he should improve on them to reach the next level of stardom. Neha Shetty who pierced the hearts of all with her looks in Dj Tillu, got a very limited role. She impressed with her innocent looks and in one song she gave ample glamor treat to give sleepless nights.
Ajay Ghosh, Srikanth Iyengar, and Auto Ramprasad are ok with their comedy acts that are stale and routine. Goparaju Ramana, LB. Sriram is ok in their roles. Vennela Kishore and Satya appeared in cameos and they entertained all with their acts that resulted in few laughs.
Bedurulanka 2012's story penned by Clax has an interesting plot. He tried to generate fun revolving around the dooms day and how few greedy people take advantage of it. Though he came up with good intentions. he included all the routine and monotonous elements in the name of comedy dated in 2012.
Though one can adjust as the villagers generally converse in the same way but he failed to generate enough fun. The lead pair Karthikeya and Neha Sshetty roles are made passive and he concentrated on elevating the fun elements through Ajay Ghosh, Srikanth Iyengar, and others. To some extent only it worked and the second half also suffered from the same template.
Clax managed to tickle the bones of all during the pre-climax introducing Thagubothu Ramesh, Vennela Kishore, and Satya in cameos. When everything is going right, unnecessary songs act as speed breakers, and the climax is dragged for unknown reasons. Had he ended the film much earlier, viewers would have had a satisfactory smile. The story, screenplay, and direction offered nothing new.
The music of Mani Sharma disappoints all. except for the couple of foottapping and romantic songs, there is nothing much to talk about. His background music is also just average. People will be surprised if they are told that Mani Sharma tuned music for the film. Seems he is losing his sheen or the story did not interest or excite him.
Sunny Kurapati and Sai Prakash Ummadi Singhu's cinematography is decent and their camera angles show the village atmosphere in a natural and realistic way. Viplav Nyshadham's editing could have been far better. The story sailed at a snail's pace and he could have chopped of many scenes for better impact. The production values of Loukya Entertainments are average.
Altogether, Beddurulanka 2012 is an outdated comedy flick. Clax came up with an interesting plot over Doomsday and tried to show Karthikeya in a different role altogether. While the idea was right, he loaded the film with predictable scenes and dialogues, and except for a few comedy scenes, nothing worked. With the story, screenplay, and direction turning out to be pretty average, the actors couldn't do much to take the film to another stage. Considering all these elements, Cinejosh goes with a 2.5 Rating for Bedurulanka 2012.
