Mecca accused say no to narco tests

The two accused in the Mecca Masjid bomb blast here on Wednesday denied the Central Bureau of Investigation's claim that they had agreed to undergo polygraph and narco-analysis tests.

When the Judge asked accused Devender Gupta and Lokesh Sharma whether they were willing to undergo polygraph and narco-analysis tests, they told the court that they never gave their consent to CBI for conducting the tests, CBI senior counsel T V Ramana said

The accused were produced before the court under tight security.  The court posted the case to Thursday for further arguments and extended their judicial remand for 14 more days.Earlier, the CBI had sought court's permission for subjecting Gupta and Sharma to the scientific tests.

The CBI, which has already questioned the duo during their police custody, in its application had claimed the two had indicated they were prepared to undergo the tests.

In May, the Supreme Court had ruled that forcing someone to go through brain-mapping, narco-analysis or lie detector tests was unconstitutional.
