Hyderabad, Aug 13 :-
The Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on Thursday stated that the government would take a decision on granting remission to convicted prisoners as the case was pending in the Supreme Court.
Talking to media people in his chambers, he said that the government would grant remission to convicted prisoners and release them on Aug 24 instead of Independence Day.
He said that the Government had issued a set of guidelines to be followed for giving remission to convicted prisoners who are to be released on August 15.
The government is treading cautiously over the issue as the process of remission turned controversial in 2007 and Supreme Court rapped the State Government questioning how life convicts could be released prematurely. However, Prison Department officials are tightlipped on the contents of the guidelines.
