Chief Minister K Rosaiah will formally inaugurate a 106-bedded special 'Arogyasri ward' at the Indo-American Cancer Institute and Research Centre (IACIRC) in Hyderabad on Friday.Telugu Desam party president N Chandrababu Naidu would inaugurate a three-linear accelerators worth Rs 20 crore, while Health Minister D Nagender would dedicate the MRI scanning centre to the poor.
According to IACIRC managing trustee Dr Kakarla Subba Rao, the special ward has been dedicated to treat needy patients under the Rajiv Arogyasri scheme after tying up with the state government for the purpose.
The IACIRC which has 500 beds announced its plans to spend Rs.125 crore on expanding its services.Dr Subba Rao said at least one lakh people are diagnosed with cancer annually in the state. Women are affected with breast and cervical cancers and men are commonly affected with mouth, tongue, larynx, stomach and colon cancers.
