Hyderabad, Dec 19: The Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) has decided to reschedule the dates of Intermediate exams in view of the unrest prevailing in the state and the closure of educational institutions necessitated by agitations and protests on the T-issue.A decision to this effect will be taken by the BIE in a few days time after reviewing the situation with educationists and academicians, said Minister for Education Manikyavara Prasad.According to BIE sources, the examinations are scheduled to be held from March 3. However, in view of the Government’s decision to close the junior colleges and universities in Telangana districts, many educationists expressed their opinion in favour of the postponement of the exams.
Taking into consideration the subsequent exams that follow the intermediate exams such as the EAMCET, IITs, the BIE is averse to the idea of postponement.“A major portion of the syllabus in government junior colleges is yet to be completed. We are looking at all options before taking a final decision on postponing the exams,” said a senior official of BIE.The teaching staff of Government junior colleges felt that it was a hasty decision on the part of the Government to close the colleges for 15 days on the pretext of a ``volatile situation.”The lecturers are worried about the `practical exams’ which are likely to commence on February 3.
As many colleges do not have the lab facilities that authorities are arranging make-shift labs to conduct practicals.Meanwhile, the officials of the Jawharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad said they will have to reschedule the academic calendar to ensure that this loss doesn’t affect the final examinations. The exams of B.Tech and B Pharmacy students falling under the purview of JNTU have been postponed to December 28.As per schedule, the exams were slated for December 21.
