IIT-Bombay graduate and Purdue University doctoral student Vikram Buddhi was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison in the USA for posting threatening messages on an internet site. Prosecutors had argued that Vikram Buddhi posted hate messages against former US president George W Bush and V-P Dick Cheney, and called for the bombing of American sites.
Chicago judge James Moody on Friday also ordered that this 38-year-old maths scholar face supervision for three years after his release. Vikram Buddhi, arrested in 2006, has spent three years in prison.
Vikram Buddhi was yesterday convicted and sentenced to 4 years and 9 months in jail and given 10 days to appeal.
It was in December 2005 to January 2006, Vikram Buddhi has posted the threat posts on Yahoo site, calling on Iraqis to kill US President George W Bush. Later on even after Vikram’s confession, the case was dragged by nearly 3 years and now he faces the conviction.
