Hyderabad,Nov 21: The state government has proposed to slap additional taxes on lorries,which transport iron ore,stated Minister for Roads and Buildings Galla Arunakumari on Saturday.After attending a review meeting with officials concerned on the road repair works at the Secretariat,the Minister told newsmen the Government is considering a proposal to impose additional tax on lorries carrying heavy goods including iron ore which badly affect the roads.The quantum of tax would be dependent on the number of trips a truck makes,she pointed out.
The additional tax will be imposed after a discussion with the concerned officials,she added.The government has allocated Rs 4 crore to take up repair of roads damaged due to transportation of iron ore in Anantapur district and elsewhere.She made it clear the new roads would be developed under public-private partnership and tenders have been called for this works.Chief Minister K Rosaiah had talks with the officials of the National Highways Authority of India to complete the road projects taken up by it,she said.
