Police set up to be revamped: DGP

Vijayawada, Oct 9 :

 The Director General of Police (DGP), Girish Kumar, on Friday stated that the police officials would be made more accountable and responsive to the people. Talking to media persons after convening a review meeting at Police Commissionarate, the DGP, a 1976 batch IPS officer, who assumed charge recently, assured that he would improve transparency at all levels in his department including his own office. He said that traffic problems, issues concerning the weaker sections and attacks on women would be addressed with utmost dedication.

He admitted that there are some deficiencies in the department.  “We will address them and try to improve the department. Even the fight against corruption is going on and sooner or later, we will gain an upper hand,’’ he said. He warned the miscreants of stern action would be taken against those who attack women. He said that he would work for abolishing the orderly system and would implement the Government Order. On the growing menace of naxalites issue, the DGP said the police force would deal with them sternly and it would not take the assistance of Centre in dealing with naxalites issue.

He said that welfare activities would be taken for police to deliver quality service to the public. “Without their welfare, I cannot expect them to deliver quality service. Their welfare would be one of my top priorities,’’ he added. As part of welfare measure, quarters would be constructed for police staff in Vijayawada, he added. He said the police force in the state would be revamped and provided modern arms to deal with crime and anti-social elements. Training would be given to police force to deal with disasters like floods and earth quakes in a better manner, he explained.
