The flood hit areas in Krishna and Guntur districts which have been inundated with flood waters are heaving a sigh of relief as flood waters on Thursday started receding fast. Aided by some intensified relief and sanitation measures the flood hit victims are now estimating their losses and are slowly coming to terms with the heavy losses they incurred during the floods. It is reported that the water levels in Repalle town of Guntur district which was inundated with flood waters on Wednesday due to breaches Krishna Right Flood Bank, Vellaturu Branch Canal and Penumudi are slowly coming down.
According to the official sources the flood waters will completely reced by Friday evening. Now the real work begins said the relief operation officials. The government will press into service a good number of workers to carry on the sanitation works.
A good number of earth moving machines and large number of other vehicles like tractors were being used to clear the slush and mud which accumulated in the flood affected areas. The authorities have also taken the health precautionary measures by distributing medical kits, containing chlorine tablets, soaps and phenyl to protect people from infectious diseases in the flood-ht areas.
