The immigration authorities at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport here on Thursday arrested a two member gang involved in making fake passports and visas in the city.
The authorities, in a joint operation with the police, arrested a two-member gang involved in making fake passports and visas. The arrested were identified as Alias and Vijay.
Acting on a tip-off, the authorities arrested both of them when they are giving fake passports and visas to two Sri Lankan nationals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.On interrogation, the authorities found some fake Indian passports, fake visas, besides rubber stamps of bank and police officers, Consulate Generals, immigration stamps of various countries, a computer, two scanners and an equal number of printers, embossing machines, chemicals and lamination sheets from them.
The gang had sent more than 100 persons to the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and European countries by providing them fake visas, the authorities said.
The gang had been operating for over a year. A number of unlicensed travel agents utilised the gang's services, according reliable sources. The police were probing the amount of cash the gang had collected for issuing the fake documents. Police suspected more people could be involved in the racket.
