HYDERABAD, Sept 23 :
With the rules for renewal of approval going to be stringent from next academic year, the managements of various colleges in the state have applied for autonomy.
With a new set of governing and approving bodies in the anvil, the managements are making a beeline seeking autonomy for their institutions.
Already about 35 institutes in the state have applied for autonomy till to date. Already another 20 applications are pending with the University Grants Commission now.
Prominent among the institutions seeking the autonomy are St Mary's group of colleges, technical institutions like CBIT and MGIT.
``If autonomy is granted , the administration of the institute will be in the hands of the management. There will not be much of a problem for getting the things done,’’ said one of the representative of a college management which has applied for autonomous status.
According to the highly placed sources here, the institutions which are granted autonomous will have less interference from the Government. Without bothering about the quality of education they offer the management can charge the fee according to their wish. So that is the reason why there is a mad rush for autonomy.
But the irony is that most of the institutions who want to get autonomous status hardly fulfil the requirements. Some of them even fail to fulfil the conditions for a university affiliation. That is the reason why many of them are in the pending.
