Hyderabad, Sept 22: The Chief Secretary, Ramakanth Reddy, on Tuesday issued memo to Kadapa Superintendent of Police D S Chauhan and other three SPs of Anantapur, Prakasam, Kurnool and Nellore over their failure to regularize traffic between Vempalli and Idupulapaya during Y S Rajasekhar Reddy’s funeral on September 4.The Chief Secretary asked their explanation over the traffic arrangements and the duty allotment to the SPs of Anantapur, Prakasam, Kurnool and Nellore.In fact, the state government had initiated an inquiry into the traffic snarls between Vempalli and Idupulapaya during YSR’s funeral headed by additional director general of police, Mr A K Khan.During investigations it was found that that two SPs of Rayalaseema zone failed to regularise traffic. The officials recorded the statements of policemen about the traffic snarl between Gandi and Vempalli.
The officials also visited the spot where the home minister, Ms Sabita Indra Reddy, the TD president, Mr N Chandrababu Naidu and other VIPs were caught in the jam during the funeral ceremony. The traffic jam also prevented the Union minister of state for defence, Mr Pallam Raju, the PR president, Chiranjeevi, the TRS MP, Vijayashanti, and 25 MPs from attending the funeral ceremony.It was learnt that police personnel informed the probe team that they were short of personnel to control the crowd.
