India has a long history of engagement with mathematics. Ancient India had made impressive progress in Algebra. To enable our mathematicians to widen their mathematical horizon the Indian mathematical community will hold the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) at Hyderabad International Convention Centre here from August 19 to 27 in 2010.
The ICM meets once in every four years. The last ICM was held in Madrid (Spain) from August 22 to 27 in 2006 . According to M S Raghunathan , National Board of Higher Mathematics, Chairman about 3,500 delegates from all over the world are expected to take part in the eight-day Congress.During the eight day meet outstanding mathematicians will be honoured with medals for their work in the field of mathematics.
