The bodies of a pair of minor lovers were retrieved from an agricultural well at the outskirts of Chodavarma mandal in Visakhapatnam district early on Thursday. The lovers are believed to have committed suicide after their parents refused to get them married.
According to Sub-Inspector Jaffar, the young lovers were identified as Miska Nagamani (14) and C Ganesh (16), both residents of Pakheer Sahib Peta, Chodavaram.
Nagamani, a ninth standard student, was the daughter of Ramanaidu while Ganesh was an electrician and the son of Ramana.
Mr Jaffar told INN that the couple were distantly related and had known each other since childhood. Their friendship turned into love since the past one year.
The two had eloped three months ago, only to return home after two days.
Since that time, the two had been trying to convince their families to get them married off.
Their families had told them to think about marriage after some years as both of them were quite young. The lovers had been adamant and reasoned with their respective families that marriages of minors were commonplace in their village.
The two went missing on Tuesday at around 5 PM. A bicycle and footwear were found near the agricultural well. Their bodies were retrieved on Thursday and shifted to hospital for autopsies.
A case has been registered.
