In a gruesome incident, a 12-year-old girl was stabbed by a mentally unsound person at Sultannagar, Machilipatnam mandal in Krishna district, following a petty quarrel between their two families.
According to Circle Inspector Subrahmanyam, accused Durga Prasad (35), son of Ranga Rao, is a labour and a resident of Sultannagar.
Mr Subrahmanyam revealed that Durga Prasad attacked the girl following a petty quarrel between his and the victim’s mother early on Wednesday.
The seventh standard girl, identified as Nandini, was rushed to hospital by neighbours with injuries to the back of her neck. She is stated to be in a serious but stable condition.
Durga Prasad is believed to have been disturbed after being unemployed since the past few months. He was living with his father after his wife Bhulakshmi left him six months after marriage due to his unemployment and abnormal behavior.
The accused, according to police, has been behaving abnormally since the past few days after his family failed to provide him food regularly and the taunts by his neighbour. On Tuesday night, he had entered into an argument with his father, demanding that he be allowed to go to Hyderabad to eke out a livelihood.
Following the attack on Nandini, Durga Prasad was caught by neighbours who took him to the police station and filed a complaint.
Durga Prasad confessed to the attack and told the policemen that they could send him to jail where he could at least get two square meals a day.
A case has been registered.
