Minister for IT, Youth Services and Sports, Communications Komatireddy Venkat Reddy congratulated Hyderabad’s badminton players Saina Nehwal and Jwala Gutta on their thrilling wins which helped India to pip England to the runner-up spot in the Commonwealth Games on Thursday.
In a message, the Minister hoped that Saina Nehwal and Jwala would achieve more awards and bring laurels to the State and the country in future.
Earlier Saina Nehwal had prevailed over the Malaysian Mew Choo Wang. The city girl came back strongly in the match after losing the first set.
The third set was an edge-of-the seat thriller, with both players trying the best to win the gold for their respective countries.
Saina’s resolve and determination saw her pull through, thus enabling the country to edge past England to the second spot in the medals tally.
Meanwhile Jwala Gutta and Aswini Ponnappa has won the 37th gold medal in the woman Badminton Doubles in the CWG.
