Supreme Court stays West Bengal ban over The Kerala Story. In a huge shock to the Mamatha Bannerjee-ruled West Bengal Government, The Supreme Court of India stayed its ban on The Kerala Story. It is known that Adah Sharma's THe Kerala Story directed by Sudipto Sen created a huge controversy as it dealt with the forcible conversions of Hindu girls by the Islamic radicals and then turned into ISIS terrorists and sex slaves.
Governments like Tamil Nadu and West Bengal banned the Kerala Story alleging that the film divides the communal fabric of the society. The makers approached the Supreme Court against the order citing that the film cannot be banned once it is censored for theatrical screening by the Censor Board. The Supreme Court sent notices to Tamil Nadu and West Bengal governments.
Following the argument, Supreme Court stayed the ban and it felt "Law cannot be used to put a premium on public intolerance, otherwise all films will land in the same spot," The Court added "The film will be screened in both Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Filmmakers need to put a disclaimer saying that the story is fictional and there is no evidence for the figure of 32,000,"
The court came down heavily on the Bengal Government stating "Why can't The Kerala Story be released in Bengal? Is it about artistic freedom? The film is running in the rest of the country,"
