Ponniyin Selvan - PS2 Hits Jackpot At The Boxoffice

PS 2 10 Days Collections

Mani Ratnam's Magnum Opus, Ponniyin Selvan is divided into two parts, PS 1 & PS 2. Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 was released last year and scored Rs 500 Crores all over the world. But, most of the share came from Tamil speaking regions only. It is because of Ponniyin Selvan is based on a highly popular book in Tamil literature written by Kalki Krishnamurthy with the same name. Tamil people feels like it's their story and the book boasts about Golden Period for Tamil Kings in the history. All these made Tamil people own that book and similarly owns Ponniyin Selvan film too. It became a hugely profitable venture for the makers.

Ponniyin Selvan Part 1 & Part 2 were shot simultaneously with an estimated budget of Rs 400+ Crs in 120 working days. By the time the Part 1, PS1 released - PS2 is almost completed except for some patch work, VFX and dubbing works. The non theatrical rights for both parts were sold for a whopping Rs 200+ Crs even before the release of first part. Amazon Prime itself bagged OTT Streaming Rights for a massive 125 crs for two parts.

After its release PS1 ended up collecting Rs 500 Crores giving huge profits already for the makers even before the release of PS 2. Now, coming to PS 2, the film has collected close to Rs 300 crores worldwide. Most of the collections came from Tamil Nadu which stands at 130 - 140 crs for its first 10 days. Overseas has crossed Rs 100 crore mark and collected a whopping 130 crores from US, UK, Australia and Gulf countries. With the help of Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada languages the film has collected 25-30 Crs.

All these combined the total collection of PS 2 stands at 290+ Crs. It will cross Rs 300 CR mark within no time. The producers which got recovered their investment with the first part itself, is enjoying the profits from PS 2. Whatever PS 2 collected it will be profit. Ponniyin Selvan has ensemble cast of Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Karthi, Trisha, Jayam Ravi in key roles and other prominent actors in key roles. AR Rahman has composed haunting music for Maniratnam's Dream Project.
