Yash Raj Films headed by Aditya Chopra is one of the oldest and biggest banners in Indian film industry. It has been in film production since the last 50 years. After Yash Chopra his son Aditya Chopra is taking forward YRF efficiently. Now YRF has started SPY Universe franchise where multiple films starring superstars are coming under one roof. Yash Raj Films is heavily invested in SPY Verse and is concentrating on those films only.
YRF played a crucial role in Ranveer Singh's career. Right from introducing him with Band Baaja Baarat they have made a total of six films with Ranveer Singh. Only Gunday of the six films that Ranveer has collaborated with YRF earned profitable collections. All the remaining films included Band Baaja Baaraat, Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl, Befikre, Kill Dil and Jayeshbhai Jordaar turned out to be average grossers due to the sale of OTT and satellite rights.
Ranveer Singh's career is also going through a lean phase since pandemic. He doesn't have a solid hit since Simba which was a remake of Temper. His much-hyped movie '83 struggled at the box-office. Jayeshbhai Jordaar, only made Rs. 15.59 crores. Much anticipated Cirkus also finished its run with 35.65 crores. There are rumours circulating in the industry that the company that gave him his start, Yash Raj Films, has opted not to work on any projects with him going forward.
YRF and Aditya Chopra are now occupied with YRF Spy Universe at the moment. They recently delivered an all-time blockbuster with Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Pathaan (2023) and are gearing up for the release of Salman Khan’s Tiger 3. They are also planning forthcoming films in this universe. A lot is at stake as each film is going to be heavily budgeted and hence, there can’t be room for error. Each film needs utmost concentration, right from pre-production to the last mile release. They believe a Ranveer Singh movie is not something that they can workout right now. So, the production house has now made the decision to drop their 12-year relationship with Ranveer Singh.
