Yesteryear Bollywood actress Sharmila Tagore speaking to scribes drew comparisons between the classic film Aradhana and Rajamouli's film RRR. Sharmila Tagore shared “When Aradhana was released, there was a huge protest in Chennai against Hindi. At that time, there was kind of a Hindi boycott ongoing. Yet, Aradhana ran for 50 weeks in theatres. It was the RRR of our time.”
She shared “It just shows that emotions transcend language. Our films, irrespective of the region they come from, make people laugh and cry. Therefore, our commonalities far exceed our differences.”
Aradhana is a 1969 Indian Hindi romantic drama film directed by Shakti Samanta, starring Sharmila Tagore and Rajesh Khanna. Sharmila Tagore owns her one and only Filmfare award for her performance in Aradhana. The film was dubbed in various Indian languages and turned out to be a hit.
Rajamouli's RRR enthralled all movie lovers across the world and the film's song Naatu Naatu won the Osars for the country.
