There was a period over for many decades where Indian Hockey cracked the whip flaunting its authority over the game to the rest of the countries across the world.
Like never before, the men's team of India had bagged the gold medals for whopping 8 times in the arenas of the Olympics in the years 1928, 1932, 1936, 1948, 1952, 1956, 1964 and 1980. The wizard of hockey, Dhyan Chand, played an instrumental factor behind many of those memorable victories.
In a sad state of affairs, however, the standards set by the pioneers had declined gradually thus stood at rock bottom at a certain moment.
The Olympics - 2021, nonetheless, witnesses the raise of Indian Hockey after four prolonged decades. This time, not only the men in blue but also the women in blue have set forth electrifying performances which made them find places in semifinals. While the men repeated this feat after a long-drawn-gap of 41 years, this happens to be the first of its kind feat for women's hockey team. What a glorious moment, for India, it is!
For time being, it cannot be predicted if our hockey teams clear rest of the matches and bag any medals. But then, the quintessence of professionalism within them would certainly acts as a driving force for the Indian youth pondering about becoming hockey players for future India. That sort of rejuvenation is enough bringing those glorious days of India back in the field of hockey.
