Sri Reddy, who often stays in the headlines more for controversial comments than her films, is hogging the limelight again. However, this time, it is for a good reason. The actress is all set to play the lead role in the biopic of late Silk Smitha, the siren of South Indian cinema in the 80s and the 90s. The film is a Tamil-Telugu bilingual in the making and will be directed by former ad-filmmaker Madhu, Sri Reddy revealed in a social media post.
“The biopic has several big names in it, which I’ll reveal in a later video. I am sharing this with you all because I need your support and blessings to take this up. After all, who am I without the audiences? You’re my family, friends and everything I could hope for. I wish the movie makes it to theatres without any hassles,” Sri Reddy, speaking fluent Tamil in the video, shared.
Some time ago, there were rumours that Anasuya Bharadwaj was finalised to play the lead role in the Silk Smitha biopic, though the actress reported the news was false. One wonders why would a filmmaker want to make a biopic on Silk Smitha again when Vidya Balan’s Dirty Picture (also a biopic of Silk Smitha) did so well at the box office? However, Sri Reddy doesn’t seem a bad choice to play Silk Smitha. One must wait to see if her social media following would help her at the theatres!
