Telangana touch to this magnum opus

Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan features 170 folk artistes

Veteran filmmaker Mani Ratnam is pulling out all stops in ensuring an artistic touch to his adaptation of Kalki Krishnamurthy’s epic novel Ponniyin Selvan. The historical drama written, directed and co-produced by Mani Ratnam is currently undergoing shoot in Hyderabad. The film has a stellar cast comprising Vikram, Karthi, Jayam Ravi, Jayaram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Trisha, Prabhu, Vikram Prabhu, and Aishwarya Lekshmi.

For some portions in the film, the filmmaker had reportedly roped in about 170 folk and tribal artistes, proficient in various art forms of Telangana State. The Telangana artistes are very likely to have shot scenes with Karthi, a popular English daily had reported today. The artistes are seen in an image with the actor that is going viral on social media.

The Ponniyin Selvan adaptation has been the dream project of several leading filmmakers in Tamil Nadu for many years now, but Mani Ratnam has had the last laugh. The book, considered to be one of the best modern-day literary works in Tamil, spans across five volumes and is nearly 2000 pages in length.
