Do you remember the film Bangaru Pichika which was the second directorial venture of veteran director Bapu and starred Chandra Mohan and Vijaya Nirmala in lead roles? Actually, Chandra Mohan and Vijaya Nirmala were not the original choice for the film. Director Bapu initially wanted to make the film with SP Balasubrahmanyam and Yaddanapudi Sulochana Rani in lead roles.
Bapu planned to make Bangaru Pichika with young and upcoming actors. When SP Balasubrahmanyam was approached, he was unwilling to take up the offer. Bapu also considered Yaddanapudi Sulochana Rani for the female lead role. But, the popular novelist too rejected the offer saying she didn’t know acting and didn’t even have interest. Then, Chandra Mohan and Vijaya Nirmala came on board to do the film.
1971 film Muhammad Bin Thughluq was the first film SP Balu appeared on screen. When SPB was busy as a singer, he was requested to appear in a song crooned by him. He agreed the proposal and appeared in the song. Later, SP Balasubrahmanyam played supporting roles in many films.
