While the corona outbreak and the resultant lockdown plunged Telugu film industry into a crisis, it also opened opportunities for small budget movies. With theatres shut for last few months and big banner movies stuck, small to medium budget movies caught the attention of the viewers with digital release.
The crisis has come an opportunity for movies which otherwise scramble to find space in the cluttered medium of movie theatres and multiplexes. While several small budget films went OTT way, Nani and Sudheer Babu’s V was the first big ticket film to have direct digital release.
However, few stars and filmmakers are not keen to release their films on OTT. Makers of Vaishnav Tej and Krithi Shetty starrer refused rumours of the film to have direct OTT release several times. They are firm over releasing the film in theaters, irrespective of how long it will take for theaters to re-open.
In the meantime, there have been reports that, Vaishnav Tej’s second film with Krish co-starring Rakul Preet Singh will opt for online series. They went on to say that makers are in talks with Hotstar and Amazon Prime Video over OTT release.
But the thing is why Vaishnav Tej would accept to release his second film on OTT platform, when his first film will have theatrical release. It has to be seen whether Krish will convince him and how makers of Uppena will react?
