Superstar Mahesh Babu created a sensation with Okkadu under the direction of Gunasekhar. Prakash Raj showed his power as an antagonist in the film. He showed different kind of variations in the role of Obul Reddy.
However Gunasekhar first planned to cast Macho Star Gopichand as the antagonist. Mahesh Babu too agreed and gave green signal to the suggestion. Producer MS Raju too okayed at once and suddenly Mahesh rejected the proposal shocking all.
While doing Okkadu, Mahesh Babu simultaneously doing Nijam with Teja. In the film Gopichand played the role of the villain. So Mahesh felt having Gopichand as villain in Okkadu would bring in monotony and so rejected the proposal.
He suggested the name of Prakash Raj for the role instead. Many times Gunasekhar shared this secret during his interactions while recollecting the memories of Okkadu.
