Remake was a safe bet for any film industry long ago, when there’s no resolution of internet and OTT. Now, remakes turned a risky affair with movie buffs opting to watch all language films on various platforms. And with early release of films on OTT, equations changed further for remakes.
The only way to impress audience with remake films is making necessary changes to the script without spoiling original content and adding commercial ingredients if there’s any space. More importantly, filmmakers should make sure the content should appeal local viewers.
Less known or films which are not available for free or affordable prices on different digital platforms indeed are better option. Amazon and few other OTTs are charging less price for subscription and are giving the option of more users for single subscription.
On the other hand, Netflix is pricey compared to other OTTs. So, filmmakers opine films streaming on the digital platform are a better choice for remakes.
In fact, makers of the original version of the films streaming on Netflix are demanding more money as they are aware that the reach for the content is less in India.
