From past few days, there’s lots of debate about future of commercial films and theatrical business. All the debate began when Bollywood filmmaker Shekhar Kapur recently posted his opinions on current situation.
“Theatres are not going to open for at least a year. So all hype around first weeks business of 100+ crores is dead. So the theatrical Star System is dead. Stars will have to go to existing OTT platform or stream films themselves through their own apps. Technology is quite simple,” stated he.
Shekhar Kapur was absolutely wrong, because people are ready to watch films in theaters. But, it will happen once vaccine for coronavirus is found. It may take six months or one year for vaccine to be available for everyone. But, once the vaccine is out, movie buffs will throng to theaters.
Especially, commercial films from star heroes and directors meant to be watched in theaters. We won’t get the similar kick if we watch it on small screens or mobile phones.
Corona is temporary and world witnessed many such disasters earlier. Definitely, 100 crore film business is possible, once things come to normalcy.
Rajamouli’s RRR starring NTR and Ram Charan, Chiranjeevi’s Acharya, Pawan Kalyan’s Vakeel Saab and Viroopaksha and few other films on sets are expected to rake 100 Cr business in first week, once theaters are reopened.
