Prime Minister Narendra Modi couple of days ago addressed the nation on the future course of action for India’s fight against COVID-19. Modi suggested that we must support local brands as they have been hard-hit by the lockdown. He emphasized that every Indian must become “vocal for our local”.
Needless to say that, Modi’s Local Mantra will definitely help growth in economy of the country. The government is also planning to support local brands. However, one wonders, whether film stars across the country will chant Modi’s local mantra or go ahead with global brands like earlier.
Usually, stars make sure to look stylish best in all the films. They choose to wear top global brands for their films and also for public appearances. Indeed, it is a prestigious issue for them in following contemporary fashion trends. They also influence fans to follow their fashion choices.
On the other hand, stars going for local brands will also reduce film’s budget for producers. Fact is that, producers spend crores just on costumes of lead cast.
However, stars may not take the bold decision as they feel insulting in wearing local brands. For most of them local brands are ‘cheap’ and will demean their image.
So, practically, Modi’s local mantra may not prosper for the time being.
