Tollywood is under dire straits facing question over its existence than never before. Everyone knows that Baahubali expanded the horizons of Tollywood across the world. At the same time the budget of films shored up but they failed to gross collections accordingly. Though the span of Tollywood increased, problems are still haunting and hounding the industry.
With the budget increasing in crores, remuneration problems is becoming a headache. Even if that was taken care of, the makers are forced to increase the budget in the name of quality.
To the top of it, changing tastes of the viewers is increasing tensions among the makers. One should show numerous reasons, attractions, creativity to bring people to the theatres. Films should have new thoughts and show viewers why they should watch them in theatres. Even concept-based films are not enough as the viewers are dreaming of Pan Indian films with visual extravaganza.
Even after all this, there is no guarantee that the viewers will come to theatres. This is because of smart entertainment in the name of OTT platforms like Amazon Prime, Netflix, etc. So people are not keen to come out of the house to theatres.
This is the main reason why overseas market especially the US coming down drastically. This year 190 straight films released and only 19 became success bringing back return on investment. So the success rate is just 10%. If the success rate is like this next year too, then it will be extremely difficult.
A lot of changes should happen and if stars remuneration and film budget do not change, bad time starts for Tollywood. If people demand big-budget pan India films then this will result in an even tougher situation.
