Lot of debates happened whenever gruesome crimes happen on women in the society. Many attack women blaming them for not dressing properly and giving an opportunity to men to trouble them. However what they forget is that everything is in the mindset and lookout. Or else how can one explain brutal rapes and atrocities on old women and small babies.
Some blame uncensored web content, films which glorify misogyny. However the makers are quick to point that they cannot be held responsible and say that films do not influence criminals and they are showing the wrong doings and the consequences of the wrong doings. They question if films influence people, then many should stay away from corruption and crimes as they promoted good effects of them in various films.
But many right thinking people feel that many renowned filmmakers have been glorifying misogyny. They cite the examples of Tollywood films RX 100 and Arjun Reddy which inspired many filmmakers to come with similar films with adult and obscene content.
In the recent Bollywood release Pati Patni Aur Woh, the dialogue on marital rape received flak. As if endorsing marital rape, Kartik Aryan says, “Biwi se sex maang lein toh hum bikhaari. Biwi ko sex na de toh hum atyachaari. Aur kisi tarah jugaad laga ke usse sex haasil kar lena toh balaatkari bhi hum hai. (If we ask our wives for sex then we’re called beggars, if we deny them sex then we’re called torturers, and if we coerce them into having sex with us, we’re called rapists).”
Though the director tries to clarify, some even are finding fault with him. Puri Jagannath for instance glorify misogyny and his films iSmart Shankar and Temper are the best examples. Maruthi too shot to fame by making adult and obscene films like Ee Rojullo and Bus Stop. People protested against such films in front of the theatres.
