In what can be said a revolutionary decision, AP CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has ordered to convert Telugu medium schools into English medium from classes 1 to 6 from next academic year. However, the government ensured that Telugu should be made as one of the compulsory subjects in all schools.
As expected, there has been a lot of hue and cry from opposition parties. Especially, a media baron is writing articles in his newspaper Eena** against YS Jagan's decision. Since many teachers accustomed to teach Telugu medium sections in their entire service, they have gone panic with government's decision. As such, they are protesting against the government.
In fact, there is no problem with language subjects such as Telugu, Hindi and English subjects in government schools. The problem will be faced by only Mathematics, Science and Social Studies teachers. De facto, the terminology in Maths and Science subjects is much easier in English than Telugu.
It is not understood by intellectuals that how could medium change in Science and Social subjects damage the culture and tradition of Telugu people.
Janasena chief Power Star Pawan Kalyan, however, appeared to have been misguided by media baron and TDP's top leaders. As such, he tweeted against YSRCP's decision and posted some Telugu literature books he had in his personal library. Following are the tweets posted by him.
* The recent decision of YCP led AP Govt’s policy of ‘Banning Telugu medium in Govt schools’ made me look at ‘telugu books’ in my library with a great admiration, love and care.
* If the YCP leadership would have understood the true wealth of Telugu language, they wouldn’t have come with such preposterous policy of banning telugu medium in Govt schools.
* These 7 volumes of ‘ Sri Surya rayandhra nighantavu’(శ్రీసూర్యరాయాంధ్ర నిఘంటవు) is not available; and with such hardship I could get this 7 volumes.
* తెలుగు మాధ్యమాన్ని పాఠశాలలలో ప్రభుత్వం ఆపివెయ్యడానికి సన్నాహాలు చేస్తుంటే ,ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్ అధికారభాష సంఘం ఏం చేస్తుంది?
