Legends like Vithalacharya and Kamalakara Kameswara Rao used to leave all shell-shocked with their folklore films. They were hailed as Janapada Brahmas. They with the support of producers like KV Reddy and LV Prasad made many fascinating experiments on screen leaving all awestruck.
Later Singeetam Srinivasa Rao impressed all with Bhairava Dweepam in the 80s. He surprised all with sci fi film Aditya 369 with Balakrishna. Later, Kodi Ramakrishna too planned a folklore sensation with Balakrishna.
The makers even erected extravagant sets in RFC, Hyderabad but the project was shelved following ego clashes with producer S Gopal Reddy. From then on many came to a conclusion that it would be difficult for genex directors to make folklore films.
However Rajamouli created a sensation with Baahubali and proved everyone wrong. He fictionalized Chandamama and Amar Chitra Katha stories and beautified with the use of the latest technology.
When many wondered whether any other director would dare to come with a folklore film, Krish showed that he too can come with similar films this time with historical entertainer Gautami Putra Satakarni with Natasimha Balakrishna.
Now with Mega Star Chiranjeevi's Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, Surender Reddy too proved that he too can come with a historical entertainer in a powerful manner. Gunasekhar is now planning Hiranyakasipa with Rana and Allu Aravind is planning Ramayana triology in 3D. So, competition is increasing for genex Janapada brahmas.
