1960s Genres Rocking Now

Gone Genres Repeating in Tollywood

Legendary hero late Nata Samrat Akkineni Nageswara Rao assuredly said in one of the interviews that there had been great films in Tollywood with variable genres which would surely be repeated on one day in Tollywood.

Apparently ANR's words are being proved now. The films of 1950s and 60s were dominated by 'Sanghika, Janapada, Pouranika and Charitraka films. (movies with contemporary concepts, folklore entertainers, mythological films and historical films). Interestingly, many genres of those days are being repeated by Tollywood filmmakers now and are making them blockbusters. Check out the following movies of various genres and their hit statuses.

* As we all know, most of the genres of contemporary films are taken from social concepts.(Sanghika). Rangasthalam, though, has been made as a period entertainer, it was basically a concept based on social issues. The movie stands as an industry hit of Tollywood at the moment.

* Rajamouli's Baahuabli series films were made as folklore entertainers and stood as pan Indian blockbusters.

* Historical film Gauthamiputra Satakarni became a hit while Rudhramadevi stood as an above average grosser. Right now, Megastar Chiranjeevi's Sye Raa Narasimhareddy is being made as the next magnum opus of Tollywood and the pre release business is of the worth of Rs.300 crores which proves the great rejuvenation of historical films.

* Apart from above films of 1960s genres, Adivi Sesh's Goodhachari (Spy Thriller) also proved then genres would become money spinners even today.

* However, no filmmakers are coming forward to produce mythological films. Though Balakrishna acted a couple of mythological films, which couldn't live upto the expectations. Likewise, Gopichand's Saahasam which was made like a Cowboy entertainer turned as an average grosser at ticket windows.
