Supreme Court Warns Star Wife

Rajinikanth's wife gets Supreme Court shock

Supreme Court today pulled up Super Star Rajinikanth's wife Latha Rajinikanth for trying to backtrack from her undertaken given to the top court. Justice Ranjan Gogoi came down strongly over Latha's attempt to skirt away her liability to pay Rs 6.2cr to an advertising agency. Latha tried to avoid paying the sum on the pretext that her previous lawyer had given a wrong undertaking.

The bench in strong words remarked "We don't like people playing around with court orders. We think you should face the trial. If you're innocent, you will be acquitted. Face the trial".

AD-Bureau Advertising Pvt Ltd approached the court seeking investigation and trail of Latha Rajinikanth under cheating charges after it claimed that it had given the money during the post-production of 2014 film Kochadaiiyaan to Mediaone Global Entertainment Ltd on personal guarantee of Latha, who is a director in Mediaone.

The firm alleged that Latha's firm not only failed to repay the money but also used the loan to clear off the previous debts. The firm approached Supreme Court after the Karnataka High Court quashed the complaint. Latha's lawyer in February gave an undertaking in the court that she will personally pay Rs 6.2cr if her firm doesn’t pay the amount in three months. But when the firm's lawyer offered to give cheque of Rs 10lakh, the court remarked, "We don't want you to pay. We want the lady to pay. It is her undertaking and the period of three months is long gone,"

Balaji Srinivasan, advocate representing Latha Rajinikanth remarked that the undertaking was recorded by the previous lawyer without Latha's approval. This made the court furious which said, "We don't think it is a case of quashing (the complaint against Latha). Why should we give extra indulgence to her anymore? We kept it pending only because you gave an undertaking. We should now decide it only on merits."

The court postponed the case to next Tuesday to decide on whether to revive the investigation of Latha Rajinikanth.
