King Nagarjuna who hit a purple patch scoring hits like Manam, Soggade Chinni Nayana and Oopiri however got huge shocks in form of Om Namo Venkatesaya and Officer when he hoped to thrill everyone with a devotional entertainer and later to recreate the magic of the cult classic Shiva teaming with Ram Gopal Varma.
While Akkineni fans are furious with the turn of events and blasted their hero for his blunders, analysts however say, these kinds of disasters are nothing new for Nag. They say since media was not active at that time, he didn’t become butt of jokes when he faced such disasters then.
Nagarjuna got disasters at the start of his career with films like Aranya Kanda, Captain Nagarjuna. His high budget film Chaitanya with Tamil director Pratap Pothen disappeared within a week. Even Krantik Kumar's Siddhartha met the same fate. Jaitra Yatra turned ended as a disastrous yatra.
When Nag's career was at the top with the hits like Ninne Pelladuta, Tamil producer Kunjumon came up with an action entertainer Rakshakudu. The film which was the most expensive one in south at that time turned out to be the biggest disaster. Many expected Nag to quit films with that shock. Nag later tasted disasters like Auto Driver after he believed his friend Siva Prasad Reddy. The film showed stars to the distributors.
Ashwini Dutt made huge financial losses with Nag-RGV's Govinda Govinda and he finally recovered with small film Subhalagnam. Since Nag experienced many lows in his career, even after Officer’s disaster, though fans got disheartened, he remained cool and composed and readied for his multi starrer with Natural Star Nani.
