The title superstar has been being heard over the decades in Indian film history. Early 70s number one hero Rajesh Khanna was given the title superstar by media. As such, he was called the first superstar of India. His successor Amitabh Bachchan occupied his throne later and was called with the titles superstar, Shahen Shah, Big B and Megastar by the media. Afterwards, Rajinikanth and a few other top stars of other languages were also called superstars.
However, the word 'Megastar' was first introduced in India for none other than our Megastar Chiranjeevi. In Marana Mrudangam film Chiranjeevi's title was mentioned as 'Megastar Chiranjeevi'. The film was released in the year, 1988. From then on, the title got great fame.
And which is why, Big B Amitabh Bachchan called Chiranjeevi the Megastar in his yesterday's tweet. "The joy and honour of working with Chiranjeevi Garu. Megastar tho pani cheyatam gouravam", Big B tweeted. Interestingly, Amitabh praised Chiranjeevi as 'The King of Indian Cinema' in an event held in the year, 2006.
