When Vithalacharya Supported His Writer

Maharathi took on Rajanala

Yesteryear writer Maharathi was known for his straight forward and strict ways. He penned dialogues making his debut for NTR, Krishna Kumari, Rajanala's folkfore film Bandipotu directed by B.Vithalacharya in 1963.

Since Vithalacharya was a kannadiga, he used to ask dialogue writer too to accompany him at the shooting spot. When Rajanala was delivering a lengthy dialogue, writer Maharathi who was seated next to Vithalacharya shouted 'cut'.

While Rajanala was taken aback, Vithalacharya couldn't understand what was happening. Maharathi explained him saying, "Sir, Rajanalagaru is uttering the dialogue in a wrong manner'. Rajanala didn't care him and mouthed it in the similar style in the second take.

Maharathi once again objected and Vithalacharya looked at him impatiently. Maharathi once again complained to his director saying whether he or Rajanala was the writer.

Vithalacharya supported Maharathi and told Rajanala to simply 'Follow the script'.

Such was the importance given to the script writers by the directors during those days unlike the present.
