Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s recent entertainer Mersal directed by Atlee is landing in various controversies since the first day of release. Even as the political heat over film’s sensational attack on PM Modi's decisions like demonetization and GST is refusing to die down, now shocking news is coming about Mersal collections.
Many critics felt that film was average but for controversy helped the film collections to shoot up. It broke many records at Box Office grossing more than 200 Crs. Analysts felt, had there been no controversy, it wouldn’t have crossed even 70 Crs.
In the midst of Mersal record collections, top distributor made startling allegation that the collections are fake. Abirami Ramanathan, a leading distributor and president of the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners and Distributors Association says… Mersal collections are inflated. He said he has been in the industry since 1976 and during that time they used to appoint people to sell tickets in black at huge prices to create hype.
He said people are following same strategy and movie lovers are pulled to draw the attention on Mersal with 200 Crs collections.
‘As a distributor, I know that producer cannot be sure of his earnings till the end of film’s theatrical run. Though Box Office numbers are shared openly, there is no proof and authencity. So, these claims cannot be questioned,’ he further added.
