It seems AP government moves on according to its will constituting Nandi award committees. Post the state division the government gave away Nandi awards for 2012 and 2013. It was felt that the awards were not given to deserved actors and technicians then. Above all, the selection committees, themselves, were criticized.
Apparently, the AP government is resorting to the same blunder as it committed to form selection committees for 2012 and 2013.
According to the reports, the AP government appointed selection committees for 2014, 2015 and 2016. Giribabu will act as chairman for 2014's awards committee while Jeevitha and Pokuri Baburao will hold the same responsibilities for 2015 and 2016 respectively.
Nevertheless, Natasimham Nandamuri Balakrishna, who acted as one of the key members in 2012 and 2013 award committees for giving away awards like NTR award and Raghupathi Venkaiah award, will act as the chairman for the same awards for 2014, 2015 and 2016.
Since Balakrishna being an MLA of TDP and a close relative of AP CM Chandrababu Naidu, it is being envisaged that all the aforesaid awards would obviously go to TDP supporters from the industry. Especially, some of the actors and technicians who are considered to be rivals of TDP might not get any awards.
Somehow, these awards appear like Balakrishna awards rather Nandi awards. It is of the generalized opinion that Nandi awards lost their credibility and reputation owing to the selection committees. In order to bring the fame back to Nandi awards, the AP government should act sensibly appointing Nandi award committees.
