Uyyalawada Falls into Rarest Genre

Uyyalawada Narasimhareddy: A Rare Attempt after 43 Years

Ever since 1932, thousands of Telugu movies have been made which fall into the genres such as social, mythological, folklore, James Bond, Cowboy, crime, suspense, thriller, horror, action, family drama, child centric, parallel films and many others.

Historical period drama is another genre which deals with the stories based upon historical events and famous people. Biopics of patriots may fall under the same category of genres.

As we know, India achieved Independence on 15 August, 1947. Thousands of patriots sacrificed their lives for the sake of Independent India. There were many Telugu people, who were imprisoned and even sacrificed their lives for our Independence.

Having gone through the 'History of Telugu Cinema', life histories of only two Telugu patriots have been made as motion pictures. Firstly, Superstar Krishna enacted the role of great freedom fighter 'Alluri Seetharamaraju' which got released in 1974 and became a blockbuster then. Afterwards, noted actor Vijay Chander reprized the role of 'Andhra Kesari' in the biopic of social reformer and patriot Tanguturi Prakasam Panthulu. The movie, however, was made as a parallel film devoid of commercial elements.

And now, Megastar Chiranjeevi is set to sport 'Uyyalawada Narasimhareddy', the first ever Telugu freedom fighter. Also, this happens to be an attempt of a big star of Telugu cinema after a huge gap of 43 years post the release of 'Alluri Seetharamaraju'. As such, the film falls into the rarest genre category.
