Long queues are found at every Kirana shop in Hyderabad as customers are demanding 7 to 8 Kgs salt pockets at a negotiable price of Rs. 70 to 300 per Kg.
Meanwhile, Union Food and Public Distribution Minister Ram Vilas Paswan asserted that there is absolutely no shortage of salt and prices are still the same. He also warned State governments to take stringent action against those hoarding salt and sugar.
‘We monitor the prices of 22 essential commodities on daily basis. As per the prices reported by distribution centers across the country, there has been no increase in price of salt whatsoever,’ a report from Government read. Department of Consumer Affairs also clarified that there is enough salt to meet any unexpected shortage.
