Balayya History Vs Nag Devotional: What Does History Say?

Satakarni Vs Om Namo Venkatesaya: Interesting Battle

Senior stars Natasimham Nandamuri Balakrishna and King Nagarjuna are doing highly anticipated movies of different genres at the moment. While Balakrishna is busy with historical entertainer 'Gauthamiputra Satakarni', Nagarjuna is shooting for a devotional flick 'Om Namo Venkatesaya'.

Historical and devotional films were frequently made between 1932 and early 70s. Gradually, audience lost interest watching period films and preferred movies with the content of contemporary events. Both Balakrishna and Nagarjuna are said to have taken brave decisions doing movies with different genres.

But then, which is the most promising film among historical 'Satakarni' and devotional 'ONV' at the trade? Right now, it can't be adjudged. Yet again, 84 years of Tollywood's history says devotional entertainers have better track record than historical films. Late ANR had good number of hits and super hits in devotional genre such as 'Vipranarayana', 'Bhaktha Tukaram', 'Mahakavi kalidasu'. Chittooru Nagaiah's 'Bhaktha Pothana', late NTR's 'Panduranga Mahatmayam', 'Krishnam Raju's 'Bhaktha Kannappa' were some of the best films in the careers of the actors. King Nagarjuna's 'Annamayya' and 'Sriramadasu' turned out to be the master pieces.

On the contrary, very few films with historical genre were made in TFI. 'Bobbili Yuddham', 'Palnati Yuddham' and Thandra Paparayudu' were a few films which showed a a little impact at Tollywood's box office. Gunasekhar's 'Rudhramadevi' stood as an above average grosser. Perhaps, 'Rudhramadevi' happened to be an inspiration for 'Satakarni's makers. Altogether, both 'Satakarni' and 'ONV' are hoped to be earth shattering hits in Tollywood.
