Of bans, replies, membership and rules

When you cannot play the game, change the rules goes the saying. First thing to do when any allegation is hurled on you is to deny it. Film land is witnessing such scenes, though they are not very new altogether.

Latest to join the banned –wagon is Nitya Menon, who was in the eye of the storm for refusing to talk to a visiting producer while on sets and other charges of arrogance.

The Kerala Film Producers’ Association (KFPA) slapped a ban on the Nitya, who acted in the Telugu hit Ala Modalaindi, on the charges of snubbing a producer. She hit back with an explanation that on the day the producer came to see her, she was shooting without a break and had asked her manager to talk to him. This act was treated a snub by the producer.

Preceding Nitya’s ban, a similar incident occurred in Karnataka where actress Nikitha was banned for having an illicit relationship with the actor Darshan, who was arrested for assaulting and threatening his wife. The ban was, however, revoked later.

Movie Artistes Association (MAA) suddenly realised that some of the heroines doing films in Telugu did not take membership and notices were served on them to enrol themselves by this month end.

Unless the artiste is a member, MAA cannot entertain any complaints from any quarters nor can an artiste derive the benefits and privileges of being a member.
