Tollywood on Oxygen Support

Tollywood in ICU

Tollywood on Oxygen Support, those who are keenly following the developments and are in the loop with the inside happenings of the industry are of the opinion that Tollywood is on Oxygen Support and is currently in ICU (Intensive Care Unit).

Every week Tollywood witnesses around 7 films, but most of them disappear after the first show or in a day or two. Not only multiplexes but also single-screen theatres are having a deserted look and some enthusiastic and yesteryear filmmakers are trying to make money with the rereleases of old hits.

Even those rereleases are finding no takers as only few diehard fans are turnning to theatres and creating some hulchul. Even few top filmmakers and producers are lamenting that people are not showing interest to see even top stars films and the screens are empty.

Now the question is why this situation arose.

1. People are craving for entertainiment and they are expecting it for affordable price and not at exorbitant price. They are getting them in multiple forms like OTT platforms, various channels and not confined to films along but sports, politics and other fields.

2. Many are passing time getting influenced in betting apps and other forms of entertainment.

3. There are multiple earning opportunities and people are keen to expand their sources of earning without confining to just one corporate form and this is robbing them of their freetime.

4. The huge ticket rates and the comparitive cost of watching the films on OTT apps in Home Theatre is giving them the alternative form of entertainment.

5. Lack of quality and novel films and lack of content driven entertainers are putting off viewers as most of the films show people who wish to see themselves on screen rather than come up with passion to give something new and surprise viewers and bring them to theatres keeping them glued to the screne.

6. Lack of attractiveness and crowdpulling factors are impacting the films. Most of them are telling the entire story in the trailer and teaser and viewers are unable to watch even those substandard teaser and trailer and they are making strong decision not to waste more then two hours of their precious time in theatres.

7. The crossing of thin redline is also putting off many viewers. Many films are blatantly glorifying adult content in form of kissing, dialogues, intimate and hilarious scenes either directly or indirectly and they are also crossing their limits in showing the brutal and gory scenes. Many right thinking people are staying away from such films.

8. Though the makers are roping in top stars for their films and they are generating interest among their fans, all people are coming to the conclusion about the film's genre and storyline and they are on more than many occasions are proven right. The filmmakers and stars are sticking their their genres and are keen to entertain fans rather than entertain all sections of movie lovers and expand their base and horizons.

9. Mindset of people changed drastically and society also underwent lot of changes but the makers are still flaunting their misogynistic ideas and also the dances show their taste. Heroines are turned mere showpieces and to be frank some show them as wamps and female oriented roles are a rarity.

10. Earlier, the makers used to consider filmmaking as an art, but now everything has turned out to be a business ever since the entry of the corporates into filmmaking.

11. Multiple delays in the release of the films and to the top of it, makers passing time with the project announcement video, glimpse release, first look release, looks of the various actors, teaser release, trailer launch, song promos, song releases without annoucning the film's release date is testing the patience of the viewers.

12. Insulting the intelligence of the people and trying to make as much money as possible in the form of benefit shows, paid premiers, increasing the ticket rates, and concentrating on the negative publicity. To top it off, not doing any films for children alienated viewers from the films.

To revive the Tollywood industry and give a fresh lease of life the makers should turn to be creative and innovative rather than concentrating on hero elevations and illogical  mass commercial entertainers and breaking the monotony with new concent and strong story. Stars and makers should comeout of the coteries and start hunting for new stories by themselves rather than get carried away living in false prestige.
